A few more e-mail questions

My last post generated a few more e-mails. Thank you all for writing in with your questions and comments, I read each and every one of them but may not always have time to reply to each one personally. I do use your testimonials on my main website, so I especially thank you for those. A few patients recently had questions I thought I'd share with you here:

A patient asked me why many of the doctors that I consult with say that the Facile Technique is a hoax. I told her that it is not a hoax. The process is not complex at all. The technique is simply a way to bring light to the area under the muscle and the ability to stop bleeding before it starts. Because it is more accurate and takes less time, I believe it contributes to the patients' quick recovery and low complication rate.

Another patient asked me why I seemed so advanced in my techniques and yet did not offer the 'Smart Lipo.' I told her that I felt that the Smart Lipo did not perform as well as the manufacturer promises and there are significant risks of burning the patients skin. I also pointed out that there are NO board certified plastic surgeons that use this device in the state of Michigan. This might also give more credence to the technology's failure.

Patients have asked about the newer Facile Tummy Tuck. I use similar tools to complete these surgeries. That is, I use simple technologies to decrease bleeding and increase comfort. I have some patients returning to work after three days.

Please keep your e-mails coming and look for more in the near future.

Some E-mails

I'm so pleased that some of you have found my blog among the millions on the 'net. I'd like to answer a few questions asked of me through e-mail today. Perhaps these will answer your own questions, dear reader. If not, I encourage you to e-mail me and I'll get a response to you as soon as possible.

My girlfriend had surgery done on her breasts and it took a couple weeks until she was back to work. I heard your commercial say you can be back to work the next day. Is that true for everyone or is it just a line to get people in the door?
On a rare occasion a patient of mine will be off of work for more than a week. Most of my patients go back to work within 3 days and some even are back to their normal activities within 24 hours.

I thought you were a plastic surgeon. Your site says cosmetic surgeon. What's the difference?
Any doctor, including oral surgeons can perform cosmetic surgery in their office. Some physicians go through specialized training through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) so as to increase their expertise and reduce the risk of complications. After completing this training, they take an extensive test that includes both written and oral examinations. More recently, the ABPS has required us to recertify to show increased proficiency. I am board certified to perform plastic surgery and have recertified this past year as well. The only way to be sure is to do your homework and investigate the credentials of your prospective surgeon.

My daughter is 16 and has been obsessing about getting a nose job especially over the last year. It's starting to affect her grades and disposition. Do you think she is too young to have the procedure?
Typically, people wait until they stop growing, as this is a sign that the nose has stopped growing as well. It would be best to come into the office for an evaluation.

I've heard a lot about SmartLipo. Is this safe or should I wait until it's been around longer?
The SmartLipo is just another method for removing fat. It is claimed that the overlying skin will shrink and reduce the need for other surgeries such as tummy tuck. However, the research articles do not support this assertion. Other literature has shown an increased rate of complications when this tool is utilized. For instance, some patients have reported being burned by this new technology. If there is no proven benefit, I am reluctant to expose my patients to increased risks and therefore I prefer to use Power Assisted Liposuction, yields excellent results without gimmickery.

I've also received many questions asking about other surgeons advertising in the area that I practice, south-eastern Michigan. As some of them have taken to posting about me and my revolutionary Facile Technique™, I'll be responding to their comments and adding some of my own in a future post.

Welcome to my blog

And welcome to my first post.

This is a place where I'll talk about new and exciting things going on in the world of cosmetic surgery and my life as a cosmetic surgeon. Both in and around my offices in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and the rest of the world.

I'll talk about new techniques and procedures as well as share my experiences on the front lines taking care of my patients. Sometimes I'll share comments or questions my patients and I discussed (anonymously, of course) that might be of interest to others.

I'll also work to expose quackery and some strange practices I've noticed in the industry that sometimes defy logic and can even put you at peril.

And, lastly, I will share with you some of my passions such as diet and excersize including running marathons and triathalons. Also, I will cover the various charities I work with. You'll be introduced to some of the professionals I work with in the industry and related to it including personal trainers and other medical professionals.

Feel free to write me with your questions about cosmetic surgery and I'll do my best to answer them if I feel the information would be useful to a larger group.

I hope to hear from you and that you enjoy my blog.
